Introduction to the 2022 Tour
d’Afrique
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the
Canadian based TDA Global Cycling Company, is offering a shortened 2022 Tour
d’Afrique Cycle Tour, as opposed to their flagship, Cairo to Cape Town Tour. It
begins in Livingstone, Zambia and finishes in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) South
Africa. The full Tour consists of three
Sections, The Elephant Highway [Livingstone to Windhoek] Dunes & Atlantic
[Windhoek to Cape Town] and Garden Route [Cape Town to Gqeberha].
The route takes the cyclists from
the majestic Victoria Falls, into Botswana, down the edge of the Kalahari into
Central Namibia and follows the desert landscape, south towards the Orange
River. Crossing over into South Africa, then following the Atlantic coastline
to Cape Town. Before the route heads
inland to tackle some challenging mountain passes along the Garden Route, finally
arriving in Gqeberha.
I will be participating and cycling
the last two sections, from Windhoek (departing 2 April) to Gqeberha (arriving
7 May) a total of 3 125km over the 29 days of cycling, with 8 dedicated
rest days. There will be 32 days of camping
and 5 nights spent in organized accommodation.
The Treloar Herald will endeavor
to bring you an unbiased photographic account, of this eagerly awaited adventure. Windhoek, Namibia, here I come, ready or not.
