About

A little bit about me...

Born at an early age in the Town of Chingola, Zambia (the then Northern Rhodesia) and the only child of Parents Ken & May Treloar.

My early education was at Hellen Waller and Chingola Primary up and until age 8, after which I was then sent to Boarding School at Capricorn Primary School in Polokwane (Pietersburg). My Parents then emigrated to South Africa and I completed High School as a boarder at Athlone Boys High School in Johannesburg.

I joined the South African Mining Industry, and completed a Mining Diploma, decided that Mining Production was not for me and branched off into the Rock Engineering Profession. Worked in the South African Gold, Chrome and Platinum mining environments, before deciding to work as an expatriate Rock Engineer in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After 4 ½ years in the DRC, decided to Retire and tick off the things that mattered on my Bucket List.
I'm married to Judith who is currently a retired High School Teacher, and I am Father to Daughters Jo-Ann, Mary-Jean, and our son Kenneth. Grandfather to Christopher, Ali, Michaela and Ethan.
My passions include Traveling, Collecting Rocks & Minerals (with associated Lapidary work), Home Brewing and the enjoyment of fine wines & beers.
I have recently relocated and we're currently living in Prince Albert at the edge of the Groot Karoo, in the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains in the Western Cape, South Africa.

This Blog is a reflection of Judith’s and my Retirement/Regrouping escapades, so that family, friends and anyone else interested can keep up to date with what we have done, are currently doing, or what we are planning to do.

Remember, this humble blog should be taken tongue-in-cheek and not taken too seriously in any way. After all, “life is too short to worry about the little things”.

Cheers,
Mike T
